The winter holiday season brings tidings of comfort and joy to many people of all ages, as well as almost uncontainable excitement and magical wonder to children. For most kids, Christmas conjures sparkly, decorated trees and sugarplum sweets and, of course, a visit from jolly old Saint Nicholas in his reindeer-drawn sleigh filled with toys for good girls and boys. Yet the harsh reality is that for economically disadvantaged people and underserved populations, the holidays often draw attention to what they’re lacking.
